IT Manager
Graduate in computing or IT to join a joint project with the University of Wales College Newport (UWCN) to evaluate an ERP system suitable for SME's, upgrading the internal network, increasing the file storage capacity, staff training, integrating library, web site, and selected data sources as an information tool for staff and approved visitors, and for use in establishing full EDI based e-commerce, all aimed at optimising IT use by the Company.

The position offers the potential for further study and enrolment for a higher degree (MSc, MPhil, PhD)

Key tasks will include:-

  • an extension of the initial needs analysis

  • research suitable ERP systems available in the market

  • evaluate the system and develop a short list against the needs model developed above

  • carry out some 'trials' on evaluation software from ERP suppliers

  • visit reference sites to evaluate a 'short list'

  • make recommendations on the 'best fit' option

Work will be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Hefin Rowlands, Head of Research and Enterprise, and his IT Development Officer, John Williams, MSc IT MBA, within the Companies Information Services Department, headed by Craig Stewart BSc ACCA 

An initial 12 week placement is anticipated to be the precursor for a two year system development project, the satisfactory completion of which could lead to a permanent senior management position.

Market Research

To conduct market research into the company’s past and present customer base, plus potential customers for, and the size and scope of, additional target markets for products, contracting and professional services. 

This will involve desk research, telephone surveys and some client interviews. 

Key tasks will include:-

  • desk research and liasing with the Company’s marketing agents

This post will provide the successful candidate with wide ranging experience of all office and administrative duties.  Working with both computerised and paper based systems, it involves contact with professional design, manufacturing, sales and site based personnel. Panel Makers
Part / Fully qualified Carpenters and Improvers are required for our expanding production requirements to make timber frame wall panels for houses, schools, clinics, hotels, village halls and the like.

While anyone with a love for timber and woodworking would find this job enjoyable and rewarding, Benfield ATT are effectively developing a new set of manufacturing skills.  Appropriate training will be given and successful applicants will be encouraged to address their interests and skills in developing both themselves and the job role.  

Key Tasks include:-

  • accurate reading and interpretation of drawings

  • use of pneumatic equipment

  • accurate timber measurement and 'squaring' of frames

  • frame assembly, including location and forming of openings

  • selection, positioning and fixing of sheathing components

Property Development
This position is being created to satisfy the needs of the Company's growing number of requests for the direct development of superior design and quality timber homes, both in partnership with established small developers and as an independent provision.

Formed in 1995 the company's extensive experience in the survey, design, planning, engineering, manufacture and erection of environmentally sustainable, energy efficient timber frame homes will now also be available to our new Property Development division.

Key Tasks will include:-

  • site selection and valuation, including market and gap assessments

  • negotiation with land owners, planning authorities, and others

  • legalities of property purchase, sale, and building contracts

  • determining house and site design, including the instruction of architectural, landscape and interior designers

Roof Truss Design 
Benfield ATT has openings for both an Experienced and a Trainee Truss Designer to work in Our technical and professional services department.    

As part of our full timber frame design and build service, Benfield ATT use the well renowned WOLF roof truss design software to engineer complex and feature roof trusses.   

Key Tasks include:-

  • interpretation of architectural drawings

  • use of CAD design software

  • contact and discussion with architects, structural engineers and other professionals to finalise design requirements

  • production of detailed manufacturing drawings and instructions

Sales Administrator
Benfield ATT provides a full range of survey, design, truss and timber frame manufacture, frame erection, training and other contract services, as well as its own range of leisure lodges, throughout the UK and Overseas.  Consequently, the sales administrator is responsible for monitoring and managing a wide range of enquiries both direct and via our field sales force, from architects, governmental authorities, house-builders, building contractors, and the general public.

Key Tasks include:-

  • handling and correlating all enquiries and estimates

  • ensuring that specified time frames for customer service are observed

  • maintaining quality of presentation and service delivery

  • monitoring all sales orientated figures and targets and liasing with the Company's management information department to ensure that this information is instantly available

Recognised as one of the UK's leading manufacturers and providers of timber frame structures, Benfield ATT has a number of openings for experienced and trainee Frame-Erectors.  This work is highly specialised and requires a keen sense of quality, safety and customer service.

Key Tasks Include:-

  • pre-determination of erection sequences

  • intelligent interpretation of architect and structural designs and plans

  • accurate setting out and levelling

  • plumb, square erection of frames

  • precision assembly of cut and pre-manufactured floor and roof components (cassette floors, roofs and truss rafters)

  • roof sheathing (sarked and felt and batten)

  • fascia, soffit and barge assembly

  • fitting of pre-glazed windows and doors

  • on site adjustments of structural and other elements

  • interior fitting of door linings, doors, skirting, architraves and window boards

  • avoidance of waste 

  • use of on site crane, forklift, floodlight, safety net, air bag, nailing and other equipment

Skilled Erectors

  • at least 10 years carpentry experience with recognised qualifications

  • at least 3 years experience in the erection of timber frame stuctures

Distributors - Franchised Business Opportunities - EU
The growth in demand for Leisure Lodges, Home Offices, Home Extensions, Play Rooms and a range of other 'extra space' requirements is proving a fertile and growing marketplace for our range of modular 'lodge' buildings (see Leisure Lodges).  There is also a demand from holiday park operators, caravan site owners wishing to replace old and tired vans with more permanent and durable structures, resort and sports facilities, etc..

In consequence we are now looking to appoint additional Distributors in Mainland Europe who have the experience and ability to:-

  • negotiate direct with local customers to determine their exact requirements

  • provide erection / assembly services, or select and project manage contractors to do this

  • supply or manage finishing services, e.g. electrics, plumbing and decorating, where required.

While there are no pre-determined requirements for distributors, it is anticipated that they will either be, or have significant experience as:-

  • building contractors

  • garden centres

  • landscape designers and contractors

Frame Erectors -EU
Recognised as one of the UK's leading manufacturers and providers of timber frame structures, Benfield ATT has a number of openings for experienced and trainee Frame-Erectors.  This work is highly specialised and requires a keen sense of quality, safety and customer service.

In response to growing interest in our products and services from other European Countries, we are now looking for Experienced Timber Frame Erectors across Europe

Key Tasks Include:-

  • pre-determination of erection sequences

  • intelligent interpretation of architect and structural designs and plans

  • accurate setting out and levelling

  • plumb, square erection of frames

  • precision assembly of cut and pre-manufactured floor and roof components (cassette floors, roofs and truss rafters)

  • roof sheathing (sarked and felt and batten)

  • fascia, soffit and barge assembly

  • fitting of pre-glazed windows and doors

  • on site adjustments of structural and other elements

  • interior fitting of door linings, doors, skirting, architraves and window boards

  • avoidance of waste 

  • use of on site crane, forklift, floodlight, safety net, air bag, nailing and other equipment

  • strict observance of time constraints, regardless of weather

  • ability to ensure and promote good customer relations

  • following strict H&S programmes in conjunction with site managers

Benfield ATT's ability to provide rapid erection of a wind and watertight building within circa 3 weeks from taking a virgin site, to include foundations, for a standard 4 bedroom house, regardless of weather conditions, is an important factor for all erection teams.

Benfield ATT is recognised as one of the leading providers of basic and advanced timber frame and truss erector training.  Refresher courses are also provided.  These services are made available to the industry and general public as part of our drive to promote timber frame as the preferred method of system building for sustainable development.  

Candidate Profiles

Skilled Erectors

  • at least 10 years carpentry experience with recognised qualifications

  • at least 3 years experience in the erection of timber frame stuctures

  • ability to set out structures, including roofs

  • second fix experience and advantage

  • ability to work in a minimum gang of 3

  • forklift and banksman certication

  • ability to work on own initiative

  • ability and willingness to work in all weathers and under floodlights

  • observance of tight deadlines

  • determination to ensure all work to the highest quality standards

  • ability to work in accordance with Benfield ATT's ISO 9001 and 'Q' Mark standards

  • own insurance (for sub contractors)

  • willing to work nationwide, with opportunities to work abroad

Trainee Erectors

  • at least 5 years carpentry experience, preferably with, or working toward, a recognised qualification

  • demonstrable ability to read and interpret drawings

  • some timber frame erection experience an advantage

  • willing to work on own initiative
